The Hayward Herald was started by Collin Thormoto in September 2022 as a way to better inform the Hayward community about what was happening at City Hall. Initially only covering City Council meetings, the Herald has expanded content to include many other aspects of Hayward news, including business news, nonprofits, and the Hayward Unified School District.
The Herald is always looking to grow coverage, and welcomes help from community members to expand news coverage for the Heart of the Bay. If you're interested in working with us, hit us up.
In 2024, the Herald became fiscally sponsored by Organize Hayward—a 501(c)3 Nonprofit. All donations to the Hayward Herald are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. The Hayward Herald manages funding through Open Collective, a transparency-focused fiscal-hosting platform. To view the Herald's finances and expenditures, check out our page on Open Collective.
Mission
