Thursday Comic: Now Serving

Editor's Note: This was a light news week, and we got a little behind because of the holiday. Luckily, our resident artist was able to put together a comic for us this week.

Sometimes it feels like most of life is spent standing in line for things. “We can make this work.” Even when it's something good, you can't avoid waiting. "We were owners, we were debt free. Now we're full of debt." With a line this long, we gotta hope some get served before they pass on. "We owe it to the elders... before they move on to the next world."

They'll never get back what was taken from them. “She would make sure that her house was clean from top to bottom before she was removed from her home so that when they came to tear it down, they would see that decent people lived there.” It may not have been much, but it was theirs. "There was a shoe shop. I don’t know why because everything was mud out there—most of it."

And they continue to fight for what they deserve. “You [Council] aren’t in the position for nothing.”

The former residents and descendants of Russell City are finally getting something from the local governments that upended their lives 60 years ago. Getting to this point hasn't been easy and, as everyone keeps saying, it's only the first step. But the road to justice can seem mighty long.
